Paige PattersonWilson
I am a painter, in oil, of still life.
Born in Indianapolis in 1954, I moved to San Francisco in 1975. I received a B.A. in painting and lithography from San Francisco State University in 1979. In 1980 I moved to Santa Barbara to complete a Master of Fine Arts degree in painting from UCSB.
I portray objects and materials that have significance to me. Even the most prosaic thing reveals itself to be intricate and and beautiful. Seeing requires looking beyond the surface into depth and observing the details. Nuances of color reveal themselves as light falls or is blocked. Shadows are transparent and colorful. Relationships are formed and patterns are created on the surface of a painting. Space, form, light, color and texture are translated using only paint on a flat surface. Herein lies the crux of the conundrum of painting.
