Carissa Luminess

Carissa Joie Luminess (nee Erin Williams)  enjoyed a well-rounded bi-coastal upbringing between California and upstate NY, studying at The Academy of Art in San Francisco and receiving her MFA in 1985 from the State University of NY at Albany in 1985 where she was awarded the Presidential Award for Excellence in Art.

Upon graduation Carissa moved to a lush valley outside of Eugene, OR where she spent the next 20 years raising her two children close to the land and successfully making a living as a full time artist, exhibiting and selling widely in the Pacific Northwest.

In 2006, following the message from a dream, Carissa moved to Santa Barbara, site unseen, where she met the literal man of her dreams her first day there in a fairy tale like event. The fairy tale has continued on in their charmed life in an enchanted ocean front home perched on the bluffs where she paints the abundant beauty and magic of her paradise.

The past 15 years has seen an emphasis on spiritual growth for Carissa as the daily meditations in her seaside angel temple have become interwoven with her experience of painting. A spiritual rebirth took place on the winter solstice of 2015 in which she received her new name, Carissa Joie Luminess (Grace Joy Light) in a dream. This evolution is reflected in her recent paintings in which the forms emerge from the ground of Being of Nature in a joyous expression of energy. Carissa has found a new joy and purpose in teaching several art classes for older adults at SBCC’s Center for Extended Learning.”

“Each painting is a deep prayer of gratitude for the beauty and love of this world”.
